Title:

Update on Ramsey Blvd/149th Ave Pedestrian Crossing

Purpose/Background:

With the recent reconstruction of Ramsey Blvd between Nowthen Blvd and Bunker Lake Blvd the original crosswalk near Ramsey Market has been removed.  City has tried for several years, unsuccessfully, to get it moved south to 149th Ave location where we have  a trail system in place that would need to be modified, but would be a more logical location for a crosswalk.  The modifications to accomplish the move could cost $6,000.00-$7,000.00 (ped. ramps, culvert extensions, trail extensions, etc...)  The county has shown a willingness to re-install the crosswalk at the new location,  but the city would be responsible for the cost of the updates.

Timeframe:

5 minutes

Observations/Alternatives:

There is high density development on the west side of Ramsey Blvd with a small market/gas station and a park on the eastside of the Ramsey Blvd creating the potential for consistent pedestrian traffic.  Staff feels there is a need to reinstall the crosswalk at the new location.

Funding Source:

Trail dedication fund

Recommendation:

Work with Anoka County Highway to reinstall the crosswalk at it's new location (Ramsey Blvd/149th Ave)

Action:

Direction to work with Anoka County Highway to reinstall the crosswalk at it's new location (Ramsey Blvd/149th Ave)
