Purpose/Background:

Purpose:  The purpose of this case is to accept and declare the results of the City's Primary Election.

Background:  As per State Statutes, the City Council must serve as a Canvassing Board to accept and declare the results of a local election.   The Primary Election was held on Tuesday, August 12, and the City's eight polling places were open for voting from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The residents also had the opportunity to vote absentee if they chose, either at Ramsey City Hall, at Anoka County Elections, or by mail.  The total number of registered voters in the City as of 7:00 a.m. on Election Day was 13,842.  Persons registering on Election Day or during the process of their absentee voting equaled 122.  The total number of Ramsey residents voting in the election was 1,893, for a nearly 14% turnout, which was a little higher than the average of just over 11% across the County.  Attached to this report is a summary of the totals for the City of Ramsey - Primary Election - At Large Council seat.  Also attached to this report is a summary of statistics re voting throughout Anoka County.
