Title

Adopt Resolution #14-10-229 to Replace a Full-time and a Part-time Police Technician

Purpose/Background:

The purpose of this case is to hire a replacement full-time Police Technician and a replacement part-time Police Technician.

Currently, the Police Department has three Police Technicians; one full-time and two part-time.    The intent of this case is to maintain the same staffing levels.    Recently, Ms. Linda Aaseby, the full-time Police Technician, announced her retirement.   After twenty-six years of service, Ms. Aaseby's last day in the office will be November 28, 2014.

Staff conducted an internal recruitment for the Police Technician positions (both FT and PT).   One of the current part-time Police Technicians, Ms. Jennifer Johnson, is recommended for the full-time position and a current intern, Ms. Kate Lindahl,  is recommended for the part-time position which will be vacated when Ms. Johnson takes the full-time position.  Both Ms. Johnson and Ms. Lindahl have passed the necessary employment testing.   Staff recommends starting both Ms. Johnson and Ms. Lindahl on Monday, December 1, 2014.

It should be noted, the part-time position is scheduled to work twenty-five hours per week.    Five of the twenty-five hours of this position are dedicated to supporting the administrative functions in the Fire Department.    However,  both positions will be trained in the Fire Administration role, which is consistent with the City's goal to have cross-trained employees.

Funding Source:

There is no additional funding required for this action.

Recommendation:

To replace a full-time and a part-time Police Technician, effective December 1, 2014; Ms. Jennifer Johnson's hourly wage will be $20.10, which is her current wage.  Ms. Kate Lindahl's hourly wage will be $18.28, which is step one of the 2014 wage scale.

Action:

Motion to adopt resolution #14-10-229 to replace a full-time and a part-time Police Technician, effective December 1, 2014; Ms. Jennifer Johnson's hourly wage will be $20.10, which is her current wage.  Ms. Kate Lindahl's hourly wage will be $18.28, which is step one of the 2014 wage scale.
