Collaborative Session to Develop Mission, Role and Functions of the Board

At the October meeting, Staff was directed to prepare a single topic agenda for this evening's meeting for the Board to discuss and chart its purpose (role) with the City moving forward.  The intent of this discussion will be for the Board to collaboratively determine the general mission of the Board and address the following two questions:

1. What is the purpose/role of the Environmental Policy Board?
2. What actions or functions are necessary to fulfill the purpose/role of the Board?

Attached to this case is the approved 2014-2015 Work Plan.  Through discussions at the last meeting, it was suggested that this may be beneficial for members to help formulate necessary actions/functions to achieve the intended outcomes of the Work Plan.  Note that the Work Plan does identify the primary objective of the Board as well as its scope, as stated in City Code.

The intended outcome of this discussion is an updated mission (or at least consensus on a generalized mission statement that could be formalized by Staff later) developed by the Board as well as general consensus on how to accomplish that mission (actions/functions necessary to do so).  Ultimately, Staff will schedule a future Work Session agenda item to review the mission and actions/functions developed by the Board.
