Title:
Declare the Results of the November 4, 2014 General Election
Purpose/Background:
Purpose: The purpose of this case is to accept and declare the results of the City's General Election.
Background: As per State Statutes, the City Council must serve as a Canvassing Board to accept and declare the results of a local election. The General Election was held on Tuesday, November 4, and the City's eight polling places were open for voting from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The residents also had the opportunity to vote absentee if they chose, either at Ramsey City Hall, at Anoka County Elections Department, or by mail. The total number of registered voters in the City as of 7:00 a.m. on Election Day was 14,638. Persons registering on Election Day or during the process of their absentee voting equaled 492. The number of Ramsey residents voting absentee, either by mail or in person totaled 681. The total number of Ramsey residents voting in the election was 8,416, for an approximate 58 percent turnout which was just under the average across the County of 59 percent. Attached to this report is a summary of the totals for the City of Ramsey General Election which local seats included at Large Council, Ward 1 and Ward 3 Council. Also attached to this report is a summary of statistics re voting throughout Anoka County.
