Title:
Schedule Council/Staff Strategic Planning Session(s) - This case was moved to 1/13/15 Regular City Council Agenda as Case 7.07.
Purpose/Background:
Purpose: The purpose of this case is to schedule the annual Council/staff Strategic Planning Session dates and times.
Background: Each year, a Strategic Planning Session is held with staff and Council. This time is used mainly for goal setting. As some of you are aware, in 2013, the City Council and staff worked with Anita Duckor of Duckor and Associates for several months to come up with a three-year strategic action plan as well as a vision and mission. Throughout 2013 and 2014, staff updated Council on the plan - what, if anything had changed and why, were the goals on schedule for completion, etc. This document continues to be a working document, updated and added to periodically.
Attached is a proposal from a professional consultant facilitator that I believe addresses the issues that the Council feels important for the current year. The Council should review the proposed scope of services, and suggest any revisions. Based upon the current proposal, the cost will be approximately $15,000, but that price may change if modifications are made. If the Council is satisfied with the format, staff will seek another proposal for a price comparison, but based upon my experience, proposals of comparable providers will likely be in a similar range.
Staff feels two afternoon/evening sessions would work well - for example a Thursday and the following Tuesday. Hours could be from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and dinner would be provided. For consideration, it is suggested that the first session be held on Thursday, January 29, followed by the second session on Tuesday, February 3. Please have your calendars available so if these dates won't work, we can discuss other times and dates.
