Title
Adopt Resolution #16-04-078 Proclaiming April 29, 2016 as Arbor Day, and the Month of May as Arbor Month
Purpose/Background:
The City of Ramsey has been recognized as a Tree City USA for the twenty-forth consecutive year (for 2015 activities). One of the standards necessary to obtain this designation is the adoption of an Arbor Day proclamation. At its roots, Arbor Day is a day to encourage and celebrate the planting of trees. In Minnesota, Arbor Day is officially observed on the last Friday of April, which this year, is April 29. The attached resolution serves as the City's official observance of Arbor Day on April 29, 2016 and also recognizes May as Arbor Month. In honor of Arbor Day, City Staff are planning a tree planting event, in coordination with a trail project in the Brookfield neighborhood, for May 12, 2016 with a fall back date of May 16, 2016 if needed due to inclement weather.
Funding Source:
This case is being handled as part of staff's regular duties.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends adopting Resolution #16-04-078 proclaiming April 29, 2016 as Arbor Day and the month of May as Arbor Month.

Motion to adopt Resolution #16-04-078 proclaiming April 29, 2016 as Arbor Day and the month of May as Arbor Month.
