EDA Business of the Year
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to nominate the 2016 Business Ramsey of the Year, an annual nomination made by the EDA.
The Ramsey Business of the Year is selected from a list of 3-5 candidates (known as the "small list"). The purpose of the small list is to narrow down the voting/ analysis process to a small pool of candidates. Said candidates are asked to answer a set of questions. The small list makes for a more efficient and effective process for the EDA.
The small list of candidates is derived from a "large list." The large list was selected by the EDA in 2011. Both lists are included in this case. Staff believes the larger list should be updated as part of this discussion.

Observations/Alternatives:
Small List
Staff follows up with a set of interview questions for each candidate on the small list. Responses to these questions are provided to the EDA in one comprehensive document. The EDA utilizes said document to select a business of the year. At this point, staff would like to add three new businesses to the "small list" --to get the list back to five nominees.
Large List
The large list is simply a running list of staff, EDA, Council, and community recommendations. Staff has no criteria/ policy for this list. Staff is recommending, as part of this case, for the EDA to select three businesses from this list to be added to the "small list."
