Title

Adopt Resolution #16-09-178 to Hire Engineering Interns

Purpose/Background:

The purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire two fall Engineering Interns.   The City has determined that the workload demands within the Engineering Department continue to require the support provided by the Engineering Interns.
 
The process to fill intern positions includes an open competitive recruitment, interviews, background checks, pre-employment testing, City Council approval to hire and on-boarding. 

As a result, staff selected two fall interns to complete the Department's annual hiring needs.    The candidates, Ms. Michaela Bebeau and Mr. Kyle Matuseski have both passed the pre-employment screenings and staff recommends hiring them.

Notification:

Intern pay:   The intern pay scale ranges from $12.00 per hour to $14.00 per hour, depending on qualifications. 

Observations/Alternatives:

Option #1  To hire  the selected 2016 Temporary Engineering Interns.

Option #2:  Not moving ahead with hiring the Temporary Engineering Interns.   Staff does not recommend this option due to the inability to meet the highly labor intensive work demands in Engineering Department.
 

Funding Source:

The funding required to fill these positions is included within the approved 2016 budget.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends option #1 above, hiring Ms. Michaela Bebeau and Mr. Kyle Matuseski, both at $12.00 per hour, effective on or near September 15, 2016.

Motion to adopt resolution #16-09-178, hiring Ms. Michaela Bebeau and Mr. Kyle Matuseski, both at $12.00 per hour, effective on or near September 15, 2016.
