Schedule Canvassing Board

Purpose:  To schedule the Canvassing Board to canvass the General Election returns.

Background:  the City Council serves as the Canvassing Board for City elections.  The Council must meet to canvass the returns and declare the results within three to 10 days after a General Election. 

Staff is asking Council to meet as the Canvassing Board on Tuesday, November 15 at 5:15 p.m., prior to the Public Works Committee meeting.  IF 5:15 is too early, staff will ask for a 5:30 Canvass meeting and ask that Public Works reschedule to 5;45 p.m.  It should be noted that a quorum is necessary to canvass the results of the Election.

The Canvassing Board meeting will be posted on the Public Notice Board as well as on the website.

The Canvassing Board meeting could be scheduled anywhere from Monday, November 14 through Friday, November 18 if one of those days would work better for the Council.  Friday November 11 is not an option due to City Hall being closed in observance of Veteran's Day.

Staff is recommending Council schedule the Canvassing Board Meeting for Tuesday, November 15, 2016, beginning at 5:15 p.m.
