Title:

Declare the Results of the November 8, 2016 General Election

Purpose/Background:

Purpose:  The purpose of this case is to accept and declare the results of the City's General Election.

Background:  As per State Statutes, the City Council must serve as a Canvassing Board to accept and declare the results of a local election.   The General Election was held on Tuesday, November 8, and the City's eight polling places were open for voting from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The residents also had the opportunity to vote absentee if they chose, either at Ramsey City Hall, at Anoka County Elections Department, or by mail.

The voter turnout of pre-registered voters was greater than 90% City-wide - and County-wide.

The attachments include a spreadsheet of the voter turnout results (County-Wide), a summary of the statistics, the local write ins and tallies, and the Abstract of Votes Cast (Ramsey).  If you desire any additional information, please contact staff.  The General Election local seats included Mayor, at Large Council, Ward 2 and Ward 4 Council.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends accepting and declaring the results of the 2016 General Election.

Action:
