Title:

Happy Days Food Vendor Selection

Background:

The food vendors who participated in the 2010 City of Ramsey Happy Days Festival included Acapulco, Domino's Pizza, the Ramsey Lions Club, and Wells Catering.  The carnival also had food booths on site.

Acapulco, the Ramsey Lions and Wells Catering have expressed a desire to return for the 2011 Festival.  In addition, staff has received applications from four new food vendors, which includes St. Katharine Drexel/Knights of Columbus, Grannies Mini Donuts, Golden Chinese, and Mobile Food Concepts.  Staff has attached the new applications for the Committee's review.  At the time of this writing, staff had not yet received updated applications from the three returning vendors; therefore, their 2010 applications are attached, listing the type of food they will be selling.

At a recent meeting, the Happy Days Committee discussed outlining criteria to assist in choosing vendors for the Festival.  One of the requirements agreed upon was that the vendor must be a Ramsey resident/business.  At that same meeting; however, consensus of the Committee present determined that Golden Chinese, which is located outside the City limits (Anoka), could be accepted providing no Ramsey business selling the same kind of food submitted an application.  It should then be noted that the food listed by Mobile Food Concepts, which is outside the City limits (Zimmerman) also lists food that is quite different from any other vendor.

Recommendation:

Staff is recommending the Committee again discuss the criteria for the food vendors and select the vendors based upon that discussion/determination.
