Title:

Consider Potential Topics for a 2017 Work Plan

Purpose/Background:

In 2016, the Board focused on developing a Statement of Purpose to better define the role if the EPB.  This was done in lieu of a Work Plan for the year.  With that process now complete and implemented, the Board can once again focus on developing a Work Plan to outline what their efforts will focus on in 2017 (and possibly beyond).  The purpose of this case is to begin brainstorming potential focus areas of the Board in 2017.

Based on current and anticipated projects, there are several topics that Staff would recommend be considered:
  1. Development of a Pollinator Initiative Program.
    • Education and awareness
    • Review of existing city practices for possible improvements
    • Incorporate pollinator friendly practices and concepts into the Natural Resources Chapter of Comprehensive Plan
  2. Develop an incentive/rebate program to encourage retrofitting existing irrigation systems with water efficient technologies (emphasis on water conservation).
  3. Utilize the Mississippi River Shoreline Inventory to connect with potential candidates for riverbank stabalization efforts.
Staff will facilitate an interactive exercise at the meeting in which Board Members will be asked identify their preferred topics or focus areas for a Work Plan.  Ultimately, the draft Work Plan will be presented to City Council for formal consideration and approval.

Funding Source:

This case is being handled as part of Staff's regular duties.

Action:

Based on discussion with the intention of identifying common ground for potential topics to include in a 2017 Work Plan.
