Adopt Resolution #17-11-283 Appointing Board and Commission Members

The purpose of this case is to appoint new Board and Commission members to partial terms on the Economic Development Authority and the Park and Recreation Commission.  

While the City conducts annual Board and Commission interviews every March for terms that are set to expire on March 31st,  periodically appointments will be made mid-year in order to fill any vacancies that have occurred as a result of unexpected resignations.  

Currently, the City has one vacant seat on the Economic Development Authority  and one vacant seat on the Park and Recreation Commission. The Mayor and Council Members conducted interviews on October 24, 2017.  Per Minnesota Statute 469.095 regarding appointments to the Economic Development Authority, the Mayor makes the appointment with the approval of the City Council; therefore, Mayor Strommen selected Mr. Dominic Kanaventi to be appointed to the Economic Development Authority; the City Council had discussion and concurred. In addition, the Mayor and Council Members had discussion and selected Mr. Andrew Andrusko for appointment to the Park and Recreation Commission.  In summary, the following candidates have been selected for the appointment to the City's Boards and Commissions: 

1) Mr. Dominic Kanaventi to be appointed to a partial term on the Economic Development Authority with a term ending March 31, 2020; and
2) Mr. Andrew Andrusko to be appointed to a partial term on the Park and Recreation Commission with a term ending March 31, 2019.

Both new members will take the Oath of Office at the November 28, 2017 meeting and begin their terms December 1, 2017.

Funding for the City's Boards and Commissions is included in the General Fund Budget; therefore, there are no additional budgetary implications are associated with making the recommended appointments.

To make the following board and commission appointments, effective December 1, 2017.

1) Mr. Dominic Kanaventi to be appointed to a partial term on to the Economic Development Authority with a term ending March 31, 2020; and
2) Mr. Andrew Andrusko to be appointed to a partial term on the Park and Recreation Commission with a term ending March 31, 2019.

Motion to adopt resolution #17-11-283 to make the following board and commission appointments, effective December 1, 2017: 

1. Appoint Mr. Dominic Kanaventi to a partial term on the Economic Development Authority with a term ending March 31, 2020; and
2. Appoint Mr. Andrew Andrusko to a partial term on the Park and Recreation Commission with a term ending March 31, 2019.
