Title
Adopt Resolution 18-031 to Hire a Part-time Engineering Administrative Assistant
Purpose/Background:
The Purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire a part-time Engineering Administrative Assistant.
The Engineering Administrative Assistant will assist with various administrative duties. Duties will include website administration and updates; preparation and mailing of letters, memos and notices; Asset Management Program administration; Special Assessments program administration; meeting minutes; document filing and scanning; and back-up coverage for administrative assistants from other departments.
This position was approved as part of the 2018 budgeting process. As a result, an internal, followed by an external recruitment process was conducted. Staff received 43 applications, 16 first interviews were held and included the City Engineer, the Park & Recreation Administrative Assistant and the Human Resources Administrative Assistant. Six second interviews were held and included the Human Resources Manager and the City Engineer. Finalists participated in a typing test and letter composition exercise, which were administered by the Human Resources Administrative Assistant. Two candidates completed an online customer service assessment and were back-grounded .
Staff has is recommending the top candidate, Ms. Marsha Weidner, be hired as a Part-time Engineering Administrative Assistant at $20.66 per hour, effective on or near February 7, 2018. Ms. Weidner will be subject to a 6-month probationary period and all Personnel Policies and/or employment contracts will apply.

Funding Source:
The 2018 funding for this position has been accounted for within the 2018 budget at $22,898.
Recommendation:
To hire Ms. Marsha Weidner as a part-time Engineering Administrative Assistant, effective on or near February 7, 2018, at $20.66 per hour which is step 1 of the 2018 wage scale.
Action:
Motion to adopt resolution #18-031 to hire Ms. Marsha Weidner as a part-time Engineering Administrative Assistant, effective on or near February 7, 2018, at $20.66 per hour which is step 1 of the 2018 wage scale.
