Title
Adopt Resolution #18-110 to Hire a Public Works Seasonal Worker and Temporary Interns
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire a Public Works Seasonal Worker and Temporary Interns.
Annually the City employs Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers to perform work in the Parks, Streets, and Utilities Divisions of Public Works and Interns to work in Administrative Services, Community Development, Engineering, and Parks. More than ever, this year's recruiting efforts have been challenge due to competition from other employers. Consquently, the process to hire temporary employees has taken longer and, in the case of the Parks Intern, the previously hired Intern for this season resigned within the first week of employment, causing a gap in coverage. With this gap in coverage and the lack of applicants for the Horticulturist Internship the Parks Division has the required fuding and is in need of immediate coverage. To offset the coverage concerns, staff have selected one seasonal candidate and three general-duty parks interns with staggered start dates. All candidates have passed the pre-employment screenings and staff recommends hiring the candidates listed below.
