Title:
Adopt Resolution #19-110 Hiring Engineering Interns
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire two hire Engineering Interns. Annually the City employs Interns to work in Administrative Services, Community Development, and Engineering.
Engineering lnterns provide assistance to Engineering staff for summer construction projects and other duties. Interns will facilitate and/or coordinate multiple ongoing engineering functions and projects within the Engineering Department including outside tasks such as construciton observation of streets and underground utilities as well as survey and top soil inspections. Inside tasks include recordkeeping, scanning and potientially working with autoCad and GIS.
Engineering Interns are temporary internship working 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday / 7:00 a.m.
to 3:30 p.m., beginning in late April to early May and running through approximately mid-September, depending on availability and workload.
The process to fill these positions includes an open competitive recruitment, interviews, background checks, pre-employment testing, City Council approval to hire and on-boarding.
At this time, staff selected two Engineering Interns. Both candidates have passed the pre-employment screenings and staff recommends hiring the candidates listed below.

Notification:
Intern pay: The intern pay scale ranges from $12.00 per hour to $14.00 per hour, depending on qualifications.
Funding Source:
The funding required to fill these positions is included within the approved 2019 budget.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends hiring Skye Feist, effective on or near May 20, 2019 at $13.00 per hour; and Kody Wilhelmi, effective on or near June 3, 2019 at $13.00 per hour.
Action:
Motion to adopt resolution #19-110 to hire the following employees on or near the dates listed below:
Engineering Interns: Skye Feist, effective May 20, 2019 at $13.00 per hour; and Kody Wilhelmi, effective June 3, 2019 at $13.00 per hour.
