ACTION REQUESTED:
Consider recommendation of approval for RFD to move forward on the implementation of the RFD ambulance service proposal. (Randy Bunch)
BACKGROUND:
Initiated by: Randy Bunch
The Roswell Fire Department (RFD) is proposing to establish a fully operational ambulance transport service under the authority of the department. This move is intended to enhance emergency medical services within the city by improving response times, expanding service capabilities, and ensuring greater continuity of care from incident to hospital. To begin this process, RFD is requesting permission to move forward with the necessary steps to implement the service, including the authority to research, select, and purchase ambulances, medical equipment, and supplies required to operate the transport service at a foundational level. This initiative is part of RFD's long-term strategic plan to meet the evolving needs of the community and to ensure that the highest level of care is available to Roswell residents and visitors. City staff recommends approval to allow the Roswell Fire Department to begin the implementation phase of the ambulance transport service, including the authority to initiate necessary purchases and planning actions. This step is essential to improve the city’s emergency medical response capabilities and align with modern public safety standards.
