ACTION REQUESTED:
Approve the purchase of one Ford E-450 XL Bariatric Ambulance utilizing HGAC Contract #AM10-23 in an amount of $250,411.20 to MEDIX, Specialty Vehicles LLC. (Chavez)
BACKGROUND:
The Roswell Fire Department is requesting approval to purchase one 2027 Ford E-450 XL Type III Bariatric Ambulance to enhance the department's emergency medical transport capabilities. This unit will serve as the department's designated bariatric ambulance and is specifically designed to safely transport patients requiring specialized equipment due to increased weight and mobility needs.
Unlike a standard ambulance, the bariatric unit provides additional interior space, allowing the patient cot to be positioned more centrally within the patient compartment. This design improves patient comfort during transport while providing EMS personnel with greater access to the patient for assessment and treatment. The unit will also be equipped to safely transport heavier patients and will be utilized for both local responses and long-distance interfacility transfers when specialized transport is required.
The addition of this apparatus will expand the department's ability to provide safe, efficient, and dignified care for all patients while reducing the need to rely on outside agencies for bariatric transport services.
