BACKGROUND:
Initiated by Ted Garcia Jr.
The City has negotiated the proposed purchase agreement with the Estate of Annie Wildy Lea Garry, a/k/a Annie W. Garry, a/k/a Annie L. Garry, to acquire approximately 6.81 acres of an 8.43-acre tract located in the NW¼SW¼ of Section 31, Township 10 South, Range 24 East, Chaves County, New Mexico, as depicted on the Garry Tract Boundary Survey recorded in Book 24, Page 88 of the Chaves County Records.
The acquisition is necessary to facilitate the planned realignment of 8th Street, a transportation improvement project intended to improve roadway alignment, traffic flow, and public safety. The additional right-of-way will enhance visibility for motorists, improve access for emergency vehicles, accommodate future transportation infrastructure needs, and reduce maintenance and liability concerns associated with the existing roadway configuration.
