SUMMARY/BACKGROUND:
We will discuss the basics of what Emergency Management is (and what programs and projects we are rolling out within the community), and will go through questions that any Council members may have.
Information such as benefits to the community: keeps the community informed of emergencies, proactive planning reduces risks and ensures swift action during crisis, clear and timely updates keep residents informed and calm, prepares the community for self-reliance and resilience, helps the community to recover quickly and effectively, provides peace of mind knowing a professional is overseeing emergency efforts allowing residents to focus on personal safety.
Examples of impacts: long term power outage and/or Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), activation of community warming or cooling center, coordination with community utility companies, provide a single point of contact for current information, wildfire threat, provides preparedness best practices such as defensible space and being Firewise, considers evacuation notifications and considers route options.
How residents should participate: attend emergency preparedness training, workshops, and drills, join local response teams and community preparedness organizations, create family emergency plans and stock 2-weeks of supplies, food, and water, create a family communications plan and have an out of area central contact, follow best practices for resilience including brush clearance and Firewise community best practices, sign up for Prescott Valley emergency notifications and alerts, know your primary and alternate evacuation routes.
