Discussion and possible action to ratify the acceptance of a grant award for the FY25 Juvenile Justice & Truancy Prevention Grant Program from the Criminal Justice Division (CJD) Office of Governor (OOG) in the amount of $22,962.25 grant funds for personnel with budget amendments for supplies and direct operating expenses for the development of a Juvenile Truancy Prevention program for the South Laredo Community the Office of Judge Roberto “Bobby” Quintana serves as Truancy Court Judge for 25 United Independent School District schools of which Truancy court has seen a 117% rise since 2019 and authorize Webb County Judge to sign all relevant documentation. This grant does not require any cash match; thus, this grant will have no impact on the general fund. The Economic Development Department reviewed all required documents, and the solicitation complies with Webb County's Single Point of Contact (SPOC) procedures. Issue: Our South Laredo community did not have a truancy prevention program. Through this grant, we can attempt to reduce the number of truancy cases held in our courts, which will benefit our families and the at-risk youths in the community standing at the edge of juvenile delinquency.
 
Solution: The grant award will supply funds of $5,736.83 to create needed marketing materials through KwikKopy, $5,053.00 for audio-visual equipment through Novastar, and provide $12,172.42 financial support for this brand-new program personnel who will follow up with calls to parents and students about Truant behavior, conduct interviews, file reports, provide students and parents with information/referrals to service providers, and provide support for a successful school career. These amounts are subtotal to $22,962.25, the Truancy grant award amount.
 
Result: The South Laredo community will have its own truancy diversion program to light a clear path toward high school graduation.
