Discussion and possible action to approve the submission of a grant application to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for the estimated amount of $16,000 for the purchase of equipment and supplies for Webb County peace officers; and to authorize the Webb County Judge to execute all necessary documents and take any actions deemed appropriate in connection therewith. This grant does not require a local funding match and will therefore have no financial impact on the County’s General Fund. All required documentation has been submitted to the Economic Development Department and has been reviewed for compliance with the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) policy. Issue: According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, law enforcement remains one of the most dangerous professions in the United States.
 
Solution: Submission of this grant application will provide the Webb County Sheriff’s Office with a supplemental source of funding to acquire critical safety equipment for its peace officers.
 
Result: The procurement of life-saving and safety equipment will enhance the ability of Webb County peace officers to perform their duties safely and effectively.

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation offers limited grant funding to support the acquisition of life-saving equipment, public safety education and prevention initiatives, scholarships and continuing education, assistance for military personnel, and efforts related to disaster preparedness and relief.
