Discussion and possible action to enter into an Agreement between Webb County for the benefit of the Webb County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, for the “287G”, beginning upon court approval until either party terminates with written notice, and authorizing the County Judge to sign any and all relevant documents and any other matters incident thereto. There is no impact to the General fund.
Issue: SB8 89th Legislative session requires Sheriffs' participation with Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement 287(g) Program, Section 8USC Subsection 1357 Immigration and Nationality Act.
Solution: Commissioners Court approval to enter into an agreement with DHS for enrollment and participation into the 287 (g).
Result: Webb County will be compliant with SB8 (89th Legislative session) as a 287 (g).
