Discussion and possible action to approve the submission of a State Homeland Security- LETPA grant application to the Office of Governor (OOG) in the amount estimated at $26,366 for the purchase of equipment for the Webb County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team; and authorizing the County Judge to execute all relevant documents;including the resolution, and any other matters incident thereto. This grant does not require any type of match, and, thus, this grant will have no impact on the general fund. All required documents were sent to the Economic Development Department and were found in compliance with the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) policy. Issue: Webb County shares an immediate international border with Mexico. Mexico is not only recognized for its activity of criminal enterprises (cartels), but as a port for terrorist organizations to enter the U.S. 

Solution: This grant application requests funding to enhance the SWAT capabilities of the Webb County Sheriff’s Office. The funds will support the acquisition of advanced technology to improve tactical response, operational efficiency, and overall safety in high-risk situations, strengthening the department’s ability to protect the community.

Result: The Webb County Sheriff’s Office will have expanded resources and strengthened capabilities.

This grant funds terrorism prevention activities and endeavors by law enforcement.

The submission and approval of this grant by the Webb County Sheriff’s Office is authorized annually by the Webb County Commissioners' Court.
