Discussion and possible action to authorize the Economic Development Department to develop and submit a Distance Learning & Telemedicine grant application to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for up to $750,000.00, and authorizing the County Judge to act as the Authorized Representative in all matters pertaining to the County's request for funding. The purpose of the application is to expand access to telemedicine in rural Webb County. This application requires a cash match of 15% for a total cash match of up to $112,500.00.  All required documents were sent for review through the Economic Development Department and the solicitation is compliant with the Webb County Single Point of Contact (SPOC) procedures. Issue: Access to healthcare in the rural areas continues to be an issue due to transportation, lack of providers, and insurance covered in the rural areas of Webb County.
 
Solution: The acquisition of grant funds will assist with expanding telemedicine services.
 
Result: Telemedicine will allow rural county residents the ability to access healthcare in their own communities.

There is sufficient funding available in the Hospital Outpatient account #1001-5030-001-432063-020.  The current balance is $265,000.00.
