Agenda Item

Receive and ratify order authorizing interment of deceased Williamson County resident Heidi Nicholson where there has been no inquest by the justice of the peace and the county has duty to inter, pursuant to Tex. Health & Safety Code Sec. 711.002(e), and allow nursing home and funeral home involved to move forward with interment while assuming all costs.

Background

The deceased was 90 years old and died in a local nursing home (Cottonwood Creek in Cedar Park). The only kin on file is her daughter, who has refused all calls and certified letters. This has been documented and reduced to writing in the form of a submitted affidavit. The precinct JP did not conduct an inquest; therefore, the county has the legal duty to inter the body (provide for disposition). This was not a request for an indigent burial as the nursing home and funeral home have assumed the costs. Since the death occurred on November 11, 2016, and there is an immediate need to inter, the order has been processed and needs ratification at this time.
