Discuss, consider and take appropriate action to allow the Sheriff's Office to accept a grant for Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) from the Firehouse Subs Foundation.

On May 15, 2018, the Commissioners Court approved the Sheriff's Office to apply for the AED grant. The Firehouse Subs Foundation notified the Sheriff's Office that the foundation approved our grant to receive the Automated External Defibrillators (AED's) worth up to $15,561.00 and we are seeking approval to accept this grant. The Sheriff's Office will receive eight (8) AED sets that will contain all needed accessories, including a protective carrying case and both adult and pediatric defibrillator pads. Maintenance costs associated with AED's are minimal and predominately for the replacement of defibrillator pads and the unit's battery. All maintenance costs will be covered through funds already allocated for equipment repairs and supplies. The grant application required no resolution or match. The AED's will be purchased directly by the foundation and will require no action by the County, other than confirming receipt of the equipment.

Staff recommends the following action: Approve the Sheriff's Office to accept the grant for eight (8) AED units through the Firehouse Subs Foundation and authorize appropriate County department personnel to complete documentation relevant to the implementation of the grant.
