Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on developing a sign policy for signage at Williamson County facilities and properties; to include, but not be limited to designating a member of the Commissioners Court to work with Williamson County Facilities in developing such policy.

Background

Roadside signs announcing our county facilities should always lead with “Williamson County.” They should also list the offices within the building so the public knows what offices/services can be found inside.

For instance, the sign for the Jester Annex located at the entrance to the parking lot lists the offices inside- Precinct 1 Commissioner, Justice of the Peace, Constable, and adds the County Tax Assessor-Collector. No names of the elected officials are listed.

The new sign outside the new county building in Hutto just says “Russ Boles County Commissioner.” Williamson County is not even mentioned. Driving by this sign does not tell anyone anything about Williamson County and could be construed as campaigning.

Adding an elected official’s name to any facility sign only increases costs to taxpayers, because Elected Officials change, but the office does not. If an official’s name is on the sign, it would have to change when a new person is elected into that office. Additionally, if we have strict rules in branding for the county’s logo, shouldn’t the signs designating our facilities be uniform also?
