Agenda Item
Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on accepting grant from Texas Judicial Commission on Mental Health for County Court at Law #4 for "Tele-Justice: Compassionate Process to Improve Court Interaction with Mentally Ill" and signing Statement of Grant Award in the amount of $25,000.
Background
The Honorable Judge John McMaster is the mental health judge for County Courts and presides over civil mental health court proceedings and hearings. Currently, individuals that are admitted into our local behavioral health hospitals, must be brought over to the Justice Center for these hearings. Judge McMaster has been collaborating with our Local Mental Health Authority, Bluebonnet Trails Community Services; Georgetown Behavioral Health Institute; Rock Springs; the County IT Department and defense attorneys to create an improved system that uses technology to better serve the need of those in crisis. A site visit to Bell County and local demonstrations have been completed. With this grant funding there is now a payment source to purchase equipment, provide needed courtroom upgrades and purchase software and licenses. The behavioral health hospitals have agreed to provide needed equipment on their end of the system. The Commissioners Court approved applying for the grant on May 14th, 2019.
