Agenda Item
Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on the approval of the Trauma Focused Equine-Assisted Therapy for Justice System Involved Youth Resolution for Juvenile Services.
Background
Juvenile Services is applying for second year grant funding through the Office of the Governor-Criminal Justice Division to continue the Trauma Focused Equine-Assisted Therapy Program. The department plans to continue contracting with Pecan Creek Ranch to provide the therapy to Williamson County youth and families involved with the juvenile justice system. The goal of the program is to promote healing from trauma, build resilience, and encourage successful community re-integration. Services will occur at WCJS for youth in the CORE Residential Treatment Program, and also at Pecan Creek Ranch for youth in the community. Eligibility for the program is determined through criteria established and by WCJS and Pecan Creek Ranch and focuses on youth who may not be responding to traditional talk therapy. The department is requesting $52,320 in grant funds and there is no match requirement.
