Discuss, consider and take appropriate action, authorizing the Williamson County Sheriff's Office to amend the project dates of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program FY2019, Local Solicitation.

Background

On October 1, 2019, agenda item #26, the Commissioners Court approved the Sheriff's Office to accept an award of $12,379.00 through the FY2019 Edward Byrne Memorial JAG Program to be used for programs within the Community Liaison Unit, including Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE), Public Safety Cadets, Citizens Academy and the 2020 Junior Deputy Academy.

The project dates are currently October 1, 2019 through September 30, 2020. Due to COVID related restrictions, the programs receiving funding through this grant are on hold. This specific grant provides expansion time up to September 30, 2021, and we are seeking approval from the Court to extend the project period through this date. This will allow additional time to complete the programs as COVID restrictions are lifted.

Staff recommends the following action: approve the Sheriff's Office to amend the program dates of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program FY2019, Local Solicitation to October 1, 2019 through September 30, 2021 and authorize appropriate County department personnel to complete documentation relevant to the implementation of the grant.
