Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on approving participation in a Texas A&M Forest Service Oak Wilt Cost-Share Funding Program for Williamson County’s River Ranch County Park; and authorize the County Judge to sign all necessary program documents including, but not limited to cost-share funding application documents, Landowner Acknowledgement Forms and other landowner related documents in relation to a Texas A&M Forest Service Oak Wilt Cost-Share Funding Program Project affecting contiguous tracts of land with multiple landowners adjacent to Williamson County’s River Ranch County Park.
Background
Texas A&M Forest Service (TFS) has confirmed three distinct and separate areas of Oak Wilt impacting River Ranch County Park. Two of the areas are located near the most southwestern boundaries of the park and also impact adjacent landowners. The third area is located solely on parkland in the northeastern area of the park. TFS has been on-site multiple times since June 2020 assessing and mapping the affected areas. TFS provided four recommendations for treatment options of which the Parks Department intends to self-perform via trenching equipment. The Oak Wilt cost-share funding program of the TFS affords affected landowners $1,000 towards treatment expenses. Williamson County is eligible to receive up to $2,000 towards treatment expenses resulting from two separate applications: (1) one as a joint landowner participant with other adjacent and affected landowners in FY20, and (2) one as a sole landowner participant applicant in FY21. The balance of the treatment expenses will be borne by the Parks Department operating budget.
