Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on a request for the Parks Department to apply for a Local Parks Grant for the Expo Center from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
Background
The Parks Department is currently in the planning and design phase for several approved projects at the Expo Center that are part of the 2019 Parks Bond Program. This particular grant application, if awarded, would provide up to $750,000 toward design and construction costs of the new Covered West Arena, which also includes restrooms and showers for the adjacent RV park. This project is estimated to cost approximately $3,500,000. The 50/50 matching grant would afford the Parks Department an opportunity to complete a large portion of this project, which is being designed to allow for phased development.
