Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on an amendment to the Subrecipient Agreement with the Williamson County and Cities Health District for the Cancer Identification and Breast Cancer Treatment Program funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
Background
The Commissioners Court approved the original ARPA agreement with the Williamson County and Cities Health District for the Breast Cancer Identification and Treatment Project on November 13th, 2023. The agreement provides funding for community education and outreach to uninsured, low-income women who reside in Williamson County and who are at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level. The program supports the Big Pink Bus and provides preventative screenings for breast cancer, improving early identification, which significantly increases the 5-year survival rate. The 5-year survival rate for breast cancer when identified in the localized stage is 99%. The revised agreement expands early detection and screenings for prostate and colon cancers that also impact men. These cancers also have a high 5-year survival rate of over 90% when detected in the localized stage. The expansion of screenings does not increase the project budget, and the eligibility criteria remains the same, but now provides the ability for men to participate in the cancer identification project.
