Agenda Item
Discuss, consider, and take appropriate action on approving the service contract between Marathon Engineering Corporation and Williamson County for jail safety padding repair, in the not-to-exceed amount of $12,576.00, and exempting this purchase from competitive bidding requirements as per Texas Local Government Code Discretionary Exemption 262.024(a)(2) and (a)(3).
Background
The isolation cell's safety padding was exposed to a massive amount of water during the June 26 flooding in the jail from a water main break in the ceiling. This caused major damage, rendering these cells un-usable until repairs are completed. This in turn greatly affects the jail operations in housing inmates that are deemed to need this type of containment. Only Marathon Engineering is able to provide this service due to this being a repair to a patented product. The department point of contact is Tom Stanfield. This expenditure will be charged to P411 which was approved as a capital request for FY2018.
