Discuss, consider and take appropriate action to authorize the Williamson County Sheriff's Office to amend the budget for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) FY2020 Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Comprehensive Grant.

Williamson County Sheriff's Office was awarded a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Comprehensive Grant through the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for FY2020 and was approved by the Commissioners Court to accept the grant on September 10, 2019, agenda item #37. The budget allowed for the County to be reimbursed for up to $49,963.36 in overtime costs associated with grant-related enforcement activities and included a required 20% match of $13,884.96.

The COVID response has resulted in decreased STEP enforcement hours, greatly reducing the amount for which we will be requesting reimbursement. TxDOT has asked that we amend the budget to reflect this reduction and is requiring a new Electronic Signature Authorization Form to complete the amendment. We are seeking the Courts' approval to reduce the budget, allowing the County to be reimbursed up to $17,022.93, with our required match reduced to $4,731.43.

Staff recommends the following action: Give approval to amend the project budget for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) FY2020 Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Comprehensive Grant and authorize appropriate County department personnel to complete documentation relevant to the implementation of the grant.
