Agenda Item
Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on funding COVID-19 Relief for Breast Cancer Screenings and related postponed healthcare through Williamson County CARES or CDBG CARES funding.
Background
Lone Star Circle of Care is an FQHC in Williamson County that provides the lion’s share of primary care and integrated behavioral health services to low-income/vulnerable county residents. As such, it functions in a public health capacity. COVID-19 has significantly disrupted patient utilization patterns at a time when experts say that preventative services are essential to mitigating the impact of COVID-19 (e.g., ongoing immunizations, flu shots, etc.). Furthermore, behavioral health needs in Williamson County’s vulnerable population are spiking due to ongoing stressors caused by COVID-19 (anxiety, depression, job loss, etc.). Finally, critical preventative services such as mammograms are being delayed and treatment, which will lead to an inevitable and unacceptable rise in late stage diagnoses with attendant years of potential life lost.
