Discuss, consider, and take appropriate action on recognizing Justice of the Peace, Pct. 3 as a Center of Excellence by the Texas Judicial Council.
Background
The Office of Court Administration is a state agency in the Judicial Branch that operates under the direction and supervision of the Supreme Court of Texas and the Chief Justice. The Centers of Excellence Program is an initiative by the Texas Judicial Council to identify, support, and highlight the excellent work done by courts across the state. The program seeks to find those courts with a commitment to excellence in serving their communities, supporting their counties, and representing the judiciary in an outstanding manner.
The program is centered around four key performance areas and five statutory compliance areas. The key performance areas are governance, access and fairness, data driven case flow management, and court operations. The compliance areas are judicial reporting, court security, court collection, indigent defense, and guardianship fraud and abuse prevention.
Participation in this program requires the readiness of a court to implement significant change and take a deep look at court processes. The Office of Court Administration reviews court processes, views internal documents and reports, and conducts an onsite visit before a court is nominated for Centers of Excellence Status.
On November 3, 2003, the Texas Judicial Council recognized Judge McLean and the JP3 staff as a Center of Excellence for JP3’s ongoing commitment to excellence in judicial administration. Judge McLean is the third Justice of the Peace in Texas to complete the months-long process to receive this distinguished recognition.
Judge McLean was recognized for her outstanding and ongoing dedication to increasing access to the justice system for her constituents, her commitment to individualized justice, and her service to Williamson County both in and out of the courtroom. As a Judicial Center of Excellence, Judge McLean and her court join six other district and county courts across the state of approximately 2,800 courts who have been recognized for their service to the courts and their communities.
