Discuss, consider, and take appropriate action on approving a process for citizen appointments made by the Williamson County Commissioners Court.

Background

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority’s (CTRMA) mission to provide innovative, multi-modal transportation solutions to help combat traffic congestion, provide routes to affordable housing and provide a better quality of life for people throughout our region.  This organization has the authority to issue bonds by resolution, impose tools and fees for their projects and manage the funds to, in theory, pay for the projects. They have primarily been the driving force behind toll road construction but bike and pedestrian trails and walkways have been included.

When the agenda items for appointments to the CTRMA were brought forward at the February 7, 2017 Williamson County Commissioners Court Session, I noted that there wasn't a process for for the Commissioners Court for these kind of citizen appointments. This is my proposal to make these appointments more transparent, to give the Court Members the ability to cast a wider net for the best candidates we can find, and for each Commissioner and the County Judge to vet the best of the best.
