Discuss, consider, and take appropriate action on ratifying purchase for 300 Series Wideback Dental Chair and equipment, in the amount of $26,797.23,from Benco Dental, Co. and exempting this purchase from competitive bidding requirements as per Texas Local Government Code Discretionary Exemption TLCG 262.024 (3).

 

The bursting of a 3” water line over the medical exam room was an unforeseen circumstance that the resulting damage and state of the exam room called for immediate action and thus was clearly an emergency. Initially, the Correction Department was under the understanding that the replacement items would be purchased with insurance proceeds and as long as the same or similar equipment was being replaced, no bidding would be required. Furthermore, due to the nature of this equipment being so specialized and the understanding that this equipment might not be available from the current manufacturer, no three quotes were obtained. Additionally, since the purchases are being paid by insurance proceeds paid by the contractor’s insurance, the County had to wait until the claims process was completed which caused the delay in this purchase being reported as an emergency exemption from the bidding process. Funding Source: 01.0100.0570.005000
