Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on approving purchase for VMWare from Dell EMC, per quote #1025811320361.1  in the amount of $298,363.62 pursuant to DIR contract #DIR-TSO-3763.

This software purchase from Dell will provide the bulk of the Software Defined Network Project solution (there are hardware and services components separately from this). This is software from VMWare (part of Dell EMC) and integrates with the County’s current infrastructure and investments in VMWare. Facilitates security by implementing “micro-segmentation” of servers and limiting access to selected users/computers/protocols all while providing more efficient communication between servers. Other solutions that were considered by the County did not offer the same integration into the County’s infrastructure and were also more costly. This is a procurement via the state DIR contract and is within the planned budget for this project. We are purchasing two years of support up front, after this time support costs will be included in the Technology Services annual budget. Software Defined Network is P511 Award 2015 CIP for $200,000 and P511 Award 2017 CIP for $150,000.
