Discuss, consider and take appropriate action authorizing the Williamson County Sheriff's Office to apply for funding through the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program Solicitation FY 2020 Formula Grant Solicitation.

Background

The Sheriff's Office is seeking approval to apply for approximately $39,885.00 through the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program Solicitation FY 2020 Formula Grant. This project will fund the purchase of a Long-Range Acoustic Device (LRAD) that can be used in a variety of situations such as issuing coronavirus-related information and warnings, delivering quarantine and curfew notifications, or facilitating drive-through testing. The LRAD is up to 10 times louder than bullhorns or portable public address systems and broadcasts exceptionally clear messages, warnings, and warning tones over distances up to 3,200 yards. The equipment can concentrate transmissions inside a 15-30 degree range, giving it the ability to reach a large audience, or a small group of less than 10 people within the crowd. This grant requires no resolution or match. The grant does require a Disclosure of Lobbying Activities form to be submitted with the application.  Staff recommends the following action: Approve the Sheriff's Office to apply for the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program Solicitation FY 2020 Formula Grant Solicitation and authorize appropriate County department personnel to complete documentation relevant to the implementation of the grant.
