Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on appointing Lisa Birkman to the Georgetown ESD #8 board to fill the vacancy left by Richard Wilkes. The term is to commence immediately and continue until December 31, 2020.

Lisa Birkman is interested in serving on the board of Williamson County ESD #8 as it will allow her to utilize the skills she acquired in over 16 years of  public service to assist and serve her fellow Williamson County citizens. She served as Williamson County Commissioner, Pct.1 from 2004-2016. While serving, she was the senior member of the commissioners court for ten years, and as such, served as the acting county judge for emergency situations when the County Judge was out of town. In that role she attended and participated in numerous emergency management trainings, meetings, simulations and actual events. She also assisted several ESD's, including ESD #8, with creation of the district, appointment of commissioners and more. She also worked with the County Emergency Management team and all the county fire departments on various projects, upgrades and emergency events. Prior to her role as County Commissioner she served on the Brushy Creek MUD Board of Directors from 2000-2004. As a member of the MUD board she worked closely with Sam Bass FD and ESD #2. In 2017 after retiring as County Commissioner she moved into the ESD #8 area and considered seeking appointment to the board at that time to continue her public service. Her dear husband became critically ill, and she became his primary caregiver until he passed away. She looks forward to serving ESD #8 in this vacant position.
