Agenda Item
Discuss, consider and take appropriate action to supplement the prior approved funding of COVID-19 Relief for Breast Cancer Screenings and related postponed healthcare through Williamson County CARES or CDBG CARES with funding from the Williamson County Tobacco Fund in order to provide healthcare assistance following the conclusion of the CARES Act funding.
Background
The purpose of the COVID-19 Relief for Breast Cancer Screenings and related postponed healthcare was to provide screenings to those in need who delayed obtaining such screenings due to fears and concerns about the COVID-19 Pandemic, as well as to assist with treatment that has become necessary due to the delays in obtaining such screenings. CARES Act funding will conclude on December 30, 2020 and there will be no funding for the treatment phase of the COVID-19 Relief for Breast Cancer Screenings and related postponed healthcare making it impossible to fully accomplish the goals of the initial funding. This item proposes to add additional funding from the Williamson County Tobacco Fund in order to ensure the intent of the program and initial funding is fully carried out. This funding will ensure that uninsured women that are identified with breast cancer, who are at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level can receive lifesaving treatment that would otherwise be unavailable.
