Agenda Item
Discuss, consider, and take appropriate action on a policy exception regarding the Chief Civil Attorney position in the County Attorney’s Office.
Background
The County Attorney’s office is asking for the Court's approval on a policy exception for the Chief Civil Attorney PCN 0046 that will be vacant effective June 11th. We would ask the court to consider one of the following options for approval.
This position currently supervises two other attorneys who are at a grade above this position:
Chief Juvenile Attorney PCN 0044 Grade 38
Chief Family Justice Attorney PCN 0045 Grade 38
There would be no fiscal impact, as this would be a Title/Grade Change only to the position. If the reclassification is allowed 15% above minimum would be at $105,503.56 for this position and the remaining $3,370.40 would be taken from this position at the end of this budget year and put into the general fund.
This position was not anticipated to be vacated prior to the salary study that is scheduled for Spring 2022. The Chief of Civil division has taken on more responsibilities and is comparable to the Chief of Criminal which is graded at a 39. The County Attorney believes that Option 2 would be the better option given that the position should be reclassified during the salary study.
- The County Attorney asks for an exception to the policy of Chief Civil Attorney PCN 0046 to hire 15% above the minimum of the pay grade 36 at the current salary of $108,873.96 which is 37% above minimum of Grade 36. Policy allows a hire at 15% above minimum for external hires which would be $90,974.92. There would be no fiscal impact, as the money is already budgeted on the position.
- The County Attorney’s office asks for the court to approve an exception and allow the reclassification of PCN 0046 from Civil Attorney Grade 36 to Chief Civil Attorney Grade 39.
