9:30am Conduct a public hearing relating to a request from the Sheriff’s Office to transfer the funding and convert position control number (PCN) 0537 Corrections Peace Officer from the Corrections Department to the Sheriff’s Department for the position of Deputy, with a Detective stipend. The position assignment will be to work on the Overdose Investigation Team. In the background section, information is given to assist in the discussion of (1) the reason for the funding transfer, including the public purpose that will be served by transferring the funding; and (2) the exact amount of the funding transfer, the sources of the payment, and the terms for distribution of the payment that effect and maintain the public purpose to be served if any excess is needed.
Background
- The reason for the funding transfer is to set up the position within the Sheriff’s Department budget and fund at an L.1.4, which is an exception to current policy. Due to the complex nature of the work, they will only open it up to Deputies with at least 4 years of experience. The public will be well served by the role this position will play to thwart increasing deaths related to the fentanyl epidemic as well as investigate the cases to locate and prosecute those responsible for fentanyl poisonings.
- The funding to be transferred to finish this fiscal year is $37,760.52, which was originally budgeted within Corrections, which will be paid through the normal bi-weekly payroll. No excess funding is needed this year or ongoing as funding amounts will be transferred. The following two agenda items contain details on position changes and funding if action is taken.
