Agenda Item
Discuss, consider and take appropriate action acknowledging the City of Taylor’s adoption of a resolution to extend its Taylor Fire Department service area to areas formerly served by the Taylor Volunteer Fire Department (a/k/a Avery Pickett Fire Department), as identified in Exhibit "A" of the City of Taylor Resolution R23-29 as "Uncovered Avery Pickett".
Background
In August of 2023, Williamson County terminated the Avery Pickett Fire Department in accordance with the terms of the First Amended and Restated Emergency Services Organizations Agreement. The City Council of the City of Taylor, Texas approved and adopted a resolution to extend its Fire Department service area to areas formerly served by the Taylor Volunteer Fire Department (a/k/a Avery Pickett Fire Department) identified in Exhibit "A" of the resolution as "Uncovered Avery Pickett". The City of Taylor will now provide fire suppression, rescue, and EMS first response services to such areas previously covered by Avery Pickett Fire Department. Fire code enforcement, and fire investigation services will remain under the jurisdiction of the Williamson County Fire Marshal until such time when the areas may be annexed by the City of Taylor.
The First Amended and Restated Emergency Services Organizations Agreement sets forth that, in the event an Emergency Service Organization (ESO) is terminated and another ESO agrees to cover and respond to all or parts of the response district of the terminated ESO, the agency accepting such terminated ESO’s response district or portions thereof will be entitled to an appropriate share of funds from Williamson County based on the reimbursement formula set forth in the First Amended and Restated Emergency Services Organizations Agreement and that such share of funds shall start on the next scheduled payment.
