Information
Agenda Item
Discuss, consider, and take appropriate action on proposed Senate Bill 9, a bill relating to the calculation of the voter-approved tax rate for certain taxing units. SB 9 would reduce the voter-approval tax rate multiplier for counties and municipalities with populations above 30,000 from 3.5 percent to 2.5 percent.
Background
Williamson County is already spending millions of county taxpayer dollars on unfunded state mandates. In just one example, we are spending, with current projections, almost $3,500,000 on court-appointed attorneys for our county courts and district courts, money that is required by the state for counties to spend but not refunded by the state.
