Public Background

The 512th District Court (DC) officially began operating on 12/1/2025.  The Governor decided not to appoint the 512th District Judge until March 2026.  In preparation of the new district court, several county departments hired staff and assembled their teams.  The 512th DC received an assigned District Judge from 12/1/2025 through 3/31/2026.  A court reporter was secured for the same period.  A court administrator is a more difficult position to secure because of the knowledge they must have to assist with not only the court operations but also to facilitate the transfer of existing criminal and civil cases from the 26th, 277th, and 368th district courts.  The case transfers are extremely important for the 512th DC to begin court proceedings, which will begin reporting to the OCA.

The recommendation is to have the current Sr. Court Operations Administration help with the additional workload.  Given her experience, she can manage existing work with the added 512th tasks.  This will minimize work disruptions and allow the 512th DC to function.     The 512th Court Administrator position was approved in the current budget cycle in October 2025 but has not been filled because the new District Judge will make that hire.  Because we have unused salary funds from the 512th Court Administrator, we are requesting to move funds within the 512th (Department 0443) from the FT Salary line (object code 001100) to the Court Admin. Supplement line (object code 001911) to cover the temporary costs for the work performed by the Sr. Court Operations Administrator for the months of January through March.  The effective date would be January 2nd, 2026 for 7 pay periods at $1550.30 per pay period.  With FICA and Retirement, the total cost would be $13,424.05.
